Obituary of Mark L. Tanzman

Mark Leonard Tanzman, an insurance underwriter for RSG in Rock Hill, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown.  He was 71.

The son of the late Meyer Tanzman and Frances Yampel Tanzman, he was born September 10, 1953 in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn.

Mark was an amazing man whose family was his number one priority.  His daughters and granddaughter Madison Grey were the light of his life, and his wife Deena was the love of his life.  He met Deena at a bungalow colony when she was a child and they later reconnected, married and raised a family.  Mark was a smart man of few words who had a quick wit, loved deeply and always people watched.  We will miss him so very much.

He is survived by his wife: Deena Dorn Tanzman; daughter Tyla Ballard and her husband Michael, who he considered his son; daughter Dara Tanzman; granddaughter Madison Grey; his brothers-in-law: Scott Dorn (Cheryl), Perry Dorn (Janice) and Bruce Dorn; and many nieces, nephews and close friends whom he adored. He is also survived by his extended family: Cheri and Mike Ballard, Jodi and Gary Bennett, the Utter (Buttermans) family, Ramona and Terry Gray, and his close friend Lee Marchfield.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his parents-in-law: Joan and Michael Dorn; and a sister-in-law: Fonda Padgett.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Weinstein for his care of Mark over the years, and close friends Dr. Nancy Condro and Eddie Schanil for their constant love.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Mark’s Life on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 2:00 to 6:00pm at Tyla and Mike’s Home on Treasure Lake Road in Rock Hill.

Memorial contributions can be made to a scholarship fund that will be established to benefit his granddaughter, Madison Grey Ballard. These can be addressed in care of Dorn, PO Box 593, Rock Hill, NY  12775.
