Obituary of Linda J. Helms

Linda J. Helms, a retired Supervisor of Alfred House in Walden, NY for the New York State OPWDD, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at her home in Bloomingburg after a long illness.  She was 79.

The daughter of the late James A. Smith and Hazel Ruth Carroll Smith, she was born January 15, 1945 in Sarasota, Florida.

Linda was actively involved and served as Treasurer in the VFW Post 4947 Auxiliary of Mamakating in Wurtsboro, NY. She was also a former President of the Bloomingburg Restoration Foundation, and enjoyed being a member of the Mamakating Seniors Club. Linda loved gardening, her koi pond, and bird watching along with all the other woodland animals that roamed through her property.

She is survived by three nieces: Darla Simmons, Jamie Ertter and Ronni Nation; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a stepdaughter: Denise Helms; several nieces and nephews; and her good friend and companion: Paul Judge. She was predeceased by her husband: Charles A. Helms, Sr.; stepson: Charles A. Helms Jr.; and two sisters: Janice Smith and Myrtle Blood.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 12 from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with a prayer service starting at 5:30pm.
