Joseph R. “Buddy” Charrette, a retired mason for the MTA in New York City, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at his home in Monticello surrounded by loved ones.  He was 85.

 

The son of the late Edward Charrette and Mary Harrigan Charrette, he was born February 5, 1939 in Brooklyn.

 

Buddy was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving from 1962 to 1963.  He was also an avid outdoorsman who couldn’t get enough of his campfires, and he loved to dance wherever he was.

 

He is survived by his wife of 33 years: Barbara Filiato Charrette, at home; his children: Deborah Charrette, Joseph Charrette (Sheri), Donald Charrette and Christopher Charrette (Stephanie); his grandchildren: Dani, Lucas, Leni Mae, Anthony, Sophia and Natalie; a stepson: Patrick Filiato (Laura) and their son Niko; four siblings: Edward Charrette, Judith Shaw, Maryann Charrette and Annamarie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers: Larry, Robert, Jerry and Phillip Charrette.

 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 11 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello, with a prayer service starting at 4pm with Fr. Bob Porpora officiating.  Cremation will follow the services.
