Obituary of John C. Hahn
John Charles Hahn, 80, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 at his home in Madison, CT after a brave battle with ALS. John was a long-time resident of the Middletown, NY area before moving to Shohola, PA and then to Madison, CT to be closer to family.
The son of the late John William Hahn and Eva Kay Terwilliger, he was born July 6, 1943 in Middletown, NY.
John earned a degree in Business Administration from Ryder College in 1966. For 27 years, John worked as a Nationwide Claims Adjuster. After his retirement, John and his wife, Janice Adamski Hahn, served in the Peace Corps together in Armenia from 2000-2002. While living in Shohola, he worked for Pike County Transportation driving patients to and from their appointments for 11 years.
John enjoyed spending time outdoors biking, hiking, and camping throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad. He especially enjoyed visiting the National Parks. He also enjoyed playing ping pong and closely followed tennis.
John is survived by his wife of 24 years, Janice Adamski Hahn, his step-son Gary Sanford and wife, Deborah, and his loving grandchildren Matthew Sanford, Thomas Sanford and Katherine Sanford. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Robert Adamski of Fort Myers, FL and his children Amber Evans, Christopher Adamski, and Emily Adamski as well as his brother-in-law Richard Adamski of Waterbury, CT. John is also survived by Daniel Andersen to whom he served as a mentor and “big brother” for many years.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, June 8 from 10:00am to 11:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro, NY for calling hours. This will be followed by a church service at 11:30am at the Community Church of Wurstboro, 134 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro. Burial will follow at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
In lieu of flowers, it is John’s wish that memorial contributions be made to ALS United Connecticut, 4 Oxford Road Suite E4, Milford, CT 06460 or to Team Gleason Foundation, 1450 Poydras Street Suite 2550, New Orleans, LA 70112 to benefit other individuals fighting ALS.
