Obituary of Roberta A. Yakin

Roberta Ann Yakin passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, NY. She was 72. The daughter of the late Alexander and Elinora Yakin, Roberta was born on July 22, 1951, in Somerville, NJ.

 

Roberta dedicated many years of her life to the insurance industry and retired from Marshall & Sterling Insurance Company in 2019, marking the end of a fulfilling career. Beyond her professional endeavors, Roberta found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid bowler, finding camaraderie and competition at Kiamesha Lanes, where she shared many memorable moments with friends. Additionally, she cherished visiting Daytona Beach, FL, where she would often vacation, basking in the sun and enjoying the ocean.

 

A devoted member of the Monticello Elks Lodge, and past member of the Monticello Fire District Auxiliary, Roberta embodied the principles of charity and community service. Her commitment to making a positive difference extended to St. Peter’s Church, where she was both a member and volunteered her time at bingo nights. Her commitment to service touched the lives of many and left a lasting mark on the community. Roberta’s warm spirit will be dearly missed by many.

 

Family was at the center of Roberta’s life, and she cherished the time she spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her twin sister Ronalda and her husband Peter (Monticello, NY), brother Ronald and his wife Jenny (Fort Lauderdale, FL), niece Brooke, niece Sara and her husband Tim, and their children, Roberta’s great niece and nephew, Julia and Benjamin. Roberta is also survived by her late brother, Robert Sr.’s children, Robert Jr. and his partner Christine (Bethel, NY), Helen and her husband Michael (Myakka City, FL), and Heather and her partner Michael (Cornwall, NY).  She was predeceased by her partner and best friend, George Kelley, parents Alexander and Elinora, and brothers Robert Sr., Richard, and Raymond.

 

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Vanlnwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701. A memorial service including the Elks and Fr. Bob Porpora will take place at 6:30pm at Vanlnwegen-Kenny Funeral Home and a reception will follow at the Monticello Elks Lodge #1544 at 46 North St, Monticello, NY 12701.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Monticello Volunteer Fire Department www.monticellofd.com or to the Monticello Elks Lodge #1544 in Monticello, NY.
