Obituary of Carol Snow

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carol "Leena" Snow, a retired registered nurse for the Center for Discovery, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, in West Milford, NJ, at the age of 81. She was born on February 2, 1943, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to the late Bernard Yost and Jean Durgin Yost.

After graduating from Luther College and obtaining her RN license, Carol embarked on a journey that took her from the heartland of Minnesota to the bustling cities of the East Coast. She began her career with a brief stint at Cornell Hospital in NYC before settling in Boston, where she spent a decade working at prestigious hospitals, forging lifelong friendships, and immersing herself in the vibrant communities of Beacon Hill and Cambridge.

In the early 1990s, Carol's life took a transformative turn when she traveled to India for the first time. Deeply devoted to Siddha Yoga and Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, she found purpose in serving others, working as a nurse at one of the organization's eye-care clinics and providing care to an elderly follower of the Ashram in Mumbai. India became her second home, and the friendships she cultivated there held a special place in her heart.

Upon her return to America, Carol found solace and fulfillment in Sullivan County, dedicating herself to her work at the Center for Discovery. She cherished her colleagues and the individuals she cared for, affectionately referring to them as her "kids."

During this time, she continued her devotion to Siddha Yoga, finding joy in the chopping room of the Ashram (a place she dreamt of going back to).

Carol inherited her deep appreciation for the arts, especially opera and musical theatre, from her mother. She also had a passion for travel, with Venice, Ireland, Block Island, Charleston, and Savannah holding special places in her heart. Known for her boundless compassion, Carol frequently showed kindness by purchasing layaway items for the less fortunate during Christmas and generously supporting families and causes she learned about through NPR.

She is survived by her loving niece, Laura Yost, nephew-in-law, Dan Jobbins, and her nephew, Andrew "Max" Yost, as well as numerous cherished friends. Carol is predeceased by her father, Bernard, her mother, Jean, her brother William, and her sister-in-law Vicki.

Carol's legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10am to 12pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.  Burial will follow at the Hurleyville Cemetery.
