Obituary of Leonard William Belaus

Leonard William Belaus, “Lenny”, a retired longtime bartender at the Old Homestead Restaurant in Bridgeville, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Care Center at Sunset Lake in Liberty after a short illness.  He was 95.

 

The son of the late George Belaus and Sophia Nowakowski Belaus, he was born April 7, 1928 in Dickson City, PA.

 

Lenny was an honorable veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.

A member of both The American Legion and VFW in Dickson City.

A Life Member of the Elks and attended St. Peter’s Church in Monticello.

 

He is survived by: nieces, nephews a cousin Romayne Cashdan, Tucson Az, and many friends.

 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister: Eleanor Marchel; and two brothers: Bernard Belaus (Helen) and George Belaus (Pauline).

 

The family would like to thank the staff at the Care Center for the exceptional care Lenny received and also a special thank you to Jen, Anthony, Sandy, Randy and his many good friends who checked on him daily, we know he considered all of you, his family.

 

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 8 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. 

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. Bob Porpora officiating. 

Burial with military honors will follow at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

 

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter's Church in Monticello, NY.
