It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Lou Kiefer of Monticello who passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Garnet Medical Center in Harris at the age of 80.

 

Lou was born in Unionville, New York on June 3, 1943 to the late Louis Kiefer and Helen Rutsky Kiefer. Lou worked his whole life in the car business selling and restoring cars. One of his greatest joys was his 2 Model T cars, but first and foremost his family. As an active member of the community, Lou was on the Town of Thompson Zoning Board and the Town of Thompson Planning Board where he was the chairman. He was also the President of the local AACA. Lou was a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all!

 

He is survived by his wife Jackie, who he referred to as his bride; his sons; Louis of New Hampshire and Ramon Cedeira and his wife Kim of S.C.; his daughters; Nadine Nielsen of Florida and Denise Cedeira Gorton and her husband Craig of S.C.; his brother John of Monticello; his grandchildren, Louis Kiefer of NH, Dr. Michael Kiefer and Stepanie of VA, Dr. Ryan Kiefer and wife Emily of PA, Jen Chesnell and husband Steve of NH, Amanda Nielsen of CO, Kyle Raymond of Paris, France, Cody Raymond of NC, Trevor Cedeira of FL, and Felicia Lawrence of FL; and two great grandchildren, aunts and cousins.

 

Lou was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Skeet Kiefer; his sister, Ellen Szelesi; and granddaughter, Victoria Luke.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 17 starting at 11:00 am at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.  Burial will follow at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
