Obituary of Francis Thomas Ryder

Francis T. "Frank" Ryder of Mongaup Valley, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 75. The son of the late Frank John Ryder and Ethel Carroll Ryder, he was born August 6, 1934 in Brooklyn. Frank joined the United States Navy at 17 years old and served for over 48 years in the military, both active and reserves. He worked for the Suffolk County Water Authority from 1958-1968 and was a member of the Bohemia Fire Dept. during that time. He went on to become the owner and operator of Ryder Pools and Decks in both the state of Florida and Mongaup Valley, NY from 1968 until the present. He was a member of the American Red Cross since 1990, coordinating meal preparation and feeding thousands of people during all types of disasters throughout the country. He is survived by his wife: Carolina Macsia Ryder, at home; his sons: Michael Ryder & his wife Dawn of Bethel, Terrance Ryder & his wife Marguerite of South Fallsburg, Glenn Ryder & his wife Donna of Rochester, Lars Ryder of Mongaup Valley and Joe Vaccaro & his wife Rosie of Canada; a daughter: Lori Koestler & her husband Timothy of Wurtsboro; his sister: Elaine Thompson & her husband Harold of Bohemia, NY; a brother: Richard Ryder & his wife Laurie of Bohemia; his grandchildren: Crystal, Michael Jr., Makayla, James, Mickey, Sonia, Jemma, Sammy, Joey and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son: Frankie P. Ryder. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 14 from 4-7pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 15 at 10:00am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. John Tran officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Mongaup Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to American Red Cross in Greater NY, P.O.
