Obituary of Ann McGuire

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ann McGuire was called home, to be reunited with her beloved Ken, on December 10, 2023.  She passed as she lived at peace secure in the knowledge that she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A retired receptionist for the East Ramapo School District, Ann leaves behind to cherish her memory four (4) children: Ken, Jr (Dianne) of Troy, New York, Patrick (Shelly) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Mary Ann of Bloomingburg and Michael (Corinne) of Liberty, New York.  She was blessed in life with eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren each of whom provided her with an unequaled sense of pride and joy.

After graduating from Christopher Columbus High School, in the Bronx, Ann worked for the New York Telephone Company before marrying the love of her life, Ken, in 1947.    The young couple welcomed their first child into the world in 1949 and a short time later, Ken was recalled into the Navy to serve his country in the Korean conflict leaving Ann behind with the couple’s young son (Ken, Jr).  In 1962, Ann and Ken moved their family to Rockland County where they raised and educated their four children.

Ann was at all times totally committed to family: her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren defined her universe and there could be no place in the world she would rather be than with family.  Her interests were always wrapped around her children’s interests.  She took great joy in traveling to Colorado, to spend time with three of her granddaughters and to dote over her son, Patrick and his high school classes.  She took great joy in attending her children’s events, her grandchildren’s concerts and sporting events.   She was known to cook dinner for entire basketball teams when her son served as a coach and Athletic director and she was sure to be on hand when his team captured the National Championship in 1992.  Although she and Ken would winter in Florida, she always yearned to return home to be with her family.   Ann developed a love of motorcycling and she and Ken would travel about the country on one occasion heading off to Nova Scotia.  Her love for and her commitment to family were joined, with her family’s love of motorcycling, symbolically in 2003 when she spent four (4) days touring New England, by Motorcycle, along with her husband, all four children, their spouses, 2 nephews, and several grandchildren, dubbed the Ride to Remember. It will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those left behind to cherish her memory.

Ann lived a beautiful life in which her quintessential joy came in sharing in the achievements of her children, watching pridefully over her grandchildren and cherishing every moment with her great grandchildren.  In her final years, she was afforded the opportunity to stay at home with her family because of the undying commitment and loyalty of her daughter, Mary Ann who placed her life on hold to care for Ann and ensure that her final days would be filed with love and dignity.    Ann truly lived her life to the fullest, committed to her family who are left imbued with her spirit which they honor today for a life well lived and love forever given.
