Obituary of Evelyn S. Culligan
Evelyn Sullivan Culligan of Monticello NY, loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, entered into rest on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the age of 93.
The daughter of the late Allan A. Sullivan and Alice Whiffen Sullivan, she was born October 10, 1930. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Norman L Culligan.
Evelyn retired from Key Bank of NY and was an avid NY Mets fan and sports enthusiast. She was always present at her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Evelyn was a devout Catholic and attended St. Peter’s Church in Monticello. She loved spending time with her family more than anything and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the absolute loves of her life. Evelyn proudly kept a tally of her great grandchildren and enjoyed talking about them whenever the opportunity presented itself. She was loving, kind and would do anything for her family and friends.
She is survived by her son: William D. Culligan and his wife Janie; brothers: Lynn D. Sullivan (Dona) and Allan E. Sullivan (Patricia); her grandchildren: Mandi Lynne Culligan (Amanda), Meghan Lynne Culligan Powell (Conrad), William D. Culligan (Sheyla), Tabetha Nygard Unser (Steven), Holli Schoonmaker D’Angelo (Nick), Samantha Schoonmaker Knapp, Paige Schoonmaker Moore (Fred), and Johnathan Churley (Ceili Horton), James, Jordan and Jerianne Wagner (Liam Chasteen); her great grandchildren: Devin Lynn Culligan, Liam Culligan, Henry Niles Yaeger, Shawn Robert Unser, Noah Unser, Kearstin Colleen Knapp, McKenzie Knapp, James Knapp, Ryleigh Anne Schoonmaker, Camryn D’Angelo, Freddy Moore, Charlotte Moore, Michael Powell and Christopher Powell; nieces: Shannon Gonzalez (Eric) and Katie Rodriquez (Angel) who were like granddaughters, as well as their mother and special friend Sharon Barbieri; and many nieces, nephews and friends including Danny Churley.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three children, Pattilyn Culligan Nygard, Colleen B. Culligan, and Robert A. Culligan; Randy Nygard and Robert Schoonmaker; grandson, Robert (Robbie) Schoonmaker; great granddaughter Kalee Rose Unser; a brother Alford Sullivan; sister Marilyn Catherine Sullivan; brothers-in-law James R. Culligan (Anne) and John Culligan (Joanne); and an uncle James Whiffen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 13 from 4:00 to 7:0pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello with a funeral service starting at 6:30pm. Cremation will follow the services and interment of her ashes will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel at a later date.
