Obituary of Jaime M. Daza

Jaime Daza, born on May 14, 1935, in La Vega, Cundinamarca, Colombia. He continued on his journey in this world on November 5, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years: Martha Lilia and four children: James (Susan), Jose (Kerry), John (Heather) and Martha Luz.


Jaime was a cherished presence in the lives of his ten grandchildren: Alexus, Elijas, Madison, Heavenly, Izabella, Caleb, Mateo, Ellyza, Ethan, Luca and one great-granddaughter: Hazel, leaving behind a legacy of love and wisdom. He was not only a dedicated family man to his own children but also to countless others whom he guided and molded into their adult lives. They adored and loved him as their own father. Jaime was beloved by his siblings: Alcira and Jairo and predeceased by his brother and sister: Luis and Dora.

 

Jaime started his journey at a young age as a Militant in the Colombian Army. He then traveled on ships worldwide as a Merchant Marine, acquiring the skills that led him to a career at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. After 37 years he retired as the Chief Engineer at the 111 Livingston St. Brooklyn, NY Power Plant. Jaime was an avid philanthropist in supporting various charities. He enjoyed bird watching, listening to classical Spanish music, and spending time peacefully outdoors.


Jaime touched the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him and will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering support. Jaime Daza's life was a testament to the power of family, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.


May he rest in peace and fly away with the angels. 

 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.  His funeral mass will follow at 4:30pm at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Cremation will follow the services.
