James Richard Barnett, a retired master electrician and small business owner, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at his home in Bloomingburg surrounded by his loving family. He was 78.

The son of the late Arthur Barnett and Ada D’Ambrosio Barnett, he was born October 11, 1945, in the Bronx.

Jim was the chairman of the Zoning Board in the Town of Mamakating for over 30 years. He was an avid pool player. His Harley’s were his greatest passion. In his later years he traveled the country on his bike visiting so many of the amazing sites our nation has to offer. Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy serving at a young age during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Marie Leuzzi Barnett, at home; two daughters: Damiane Doyle (Jim) of Middletown, and Lisa Bond (Joe) of Montgomery; a son: James R. Barnett Jr. (Missy) of Seymour, TN; five grandchildren: Meghan, Riley, Matthew, Taylor and Jimmy; a brother: Ronald Barnett of FL; and several nieces nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister: Arlene Rodstrom.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, November 9 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 10 at 11am at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 High Street in Bloomingburg with Fr. Paul Denault, O. Carm officiating.
