Obituary of Ernest Randolph De Gastonguay

Ernest R. DeGastonguay, II, a former carpenter, and longtime resident of the area, died at the Harbor Point Nursing Home in Norfolk, VA on Sunday, April 11, 2010. He was 85. The son of the late Nicholas Corea and Helen Culigan, Ernest was born on March 5, 1925 in Cornwall on Hudson, New York. He was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Dolores Corwin on June 4, 1996. He will be remembered as a proud World War II Navy veteran, serving on the USS Spangenberg D.E. 223, as a Pharmacist Mate third class, a man who loved gardening, and an avid fisherman. He is survived by his 2 beloved daughters: Donna Byers and her husband Gary of Portsmouth, VA, and Susan Porell and her husband Ernest of Westbrook Maine; 3 sisters: Mary, Helen, and Rose; 3 grandchildren: Richard S. Morgan and his wife Kate of Monticello, Daniel Porell of Westbrook, Maine, and Ernest De Gastonguay, IV. In addition to his loving wife, Ernest was predeceased by his parents; his brother: Nicholas Corea; and his son: Ernest De Gastonguay, III. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 11:00am at the Sylvan Cemetery, Route 209, in Wurtsboro, with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.
