Obituary of Charles James Giblin

Charles James Giblin, a retired tax assessor for the Town of Mamakating, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 89. The son of the late Charles Francis Giblin and Mary Catherine Monaghan Giblin, he was born January 16, 1921 in Astoria. Ordained a Franciscan Friar in 1949, Charlie was dispensed from his priestly obligations in 1971. He was later predeceased by his wife, Francisca "Julie" Martinez. He is survived by several nieces and nephews including: Veronica (Rudy) Wolf, Peter (Christine) Kaim, and Brian (Margaret) Kaim; great nieces and nephews: Ricky, Veronica, Kenny, Darlene, Mark, Keith, Greta, Timmy, Terry, Robbie, Bryan and Matthew; and many great great nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother: James Giblin; two sisters: Veronica Kaim Downes and Mary Meehan; and a niece: Marilyn Wood (whose husband Woody survives). Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19 from 7-9pm and on Saturday, February 20 from 10am to 11:30am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated on Saturday at 12:00noon at St. Joseph's Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial will be private at a later date at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, P.O.
