Obituary of James Ellis

James Ellis, Jr., 73 years old, was a lifetime resident of Monticello, NY. He peacefully departed this life on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. He was the son of the late James, Sr. and Caroline Ellis. James graduated from Monticello High School and attended Orange County Community College. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Temple Church, where he accepted Christ, and served in many capacities. He was President of the Brotherhood Department, member of the Building Fund, and was very instrumental in the construction project for the new edifice. He was an Operating Engineer for Union Local No. 825 for 39 years and was an influential member of the Town of Thompson Board. James was an avid golfer. He golfed with friends from Fox 5 News, and was quite competitive in the sport. He would meet friends and family on many courses such as the Concord, Grossingers, Kutshers, Villa Roma, and other golf courses throughout Sullivan, Ulster and Orange Counties, as well as Myrtle Beach, SC. James Ellis, Jr. is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mildred Juanita Derello Ellis of Monticello, NY; six sons, Steven Ellis of Miami, FL, Mark Ellis (Susan) of Catskill, NY, Ronald Ellis (Rosa) of Monticello, NY, Dean Ellis of Colonie, NY, Gene Ellis (Ivonne) of Middletown, NY, and James Ellis, III, of Washington, DC; three daughters, Gloria Ellis of Burke, VA, Lisa Ellis of East Greenbush, NY, and Doreen Buchanan (Timothy) of Orlando, FL; one sister, Armelda Ellis Bracey (Samuel) of Monticello, NY; two brothers, Richard Ellis (Freida) of Monticello, NY, and George Ellis (Terry) of Wappinger Falls, NY; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Jerleane Ellis Cleveland. The family will receive friends and family at VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, Monticello, NY, on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012, 93 Fairground Road, Monticello, NY. The viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the funeral will begin at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello, NY.
