Obituary of John C. Gallo Jr.
John Charles Gallo Jr. of Bloomingburg, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA. He was 84.
The son of the late John C. Gallo Sr. and Kathryn Blake Gallo, he was born November 5, 1937 in Monsey, NY. He was the widower of Ruth E. Hoyer Gallo who predeceased him on December 4, 2019.
A veteran of the United States Navy, he proudly served on the U.S.S. ELOKOMIN(AO-55). He was a member of various catholic churches over the years: Our Lady of Assumption Church in Bloomingburg, NY, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wurtsboro, NY, St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bullville, NY and most recently, Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, VA. He worked for 35 years at Agway, Inc. in various positions, starting as a truck driver, a plumbing and heating technician, and supervisor of the propane division.
John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. Popi, as he was known to his family, was a master mechanic and “Fixer”. It was not unusual for family and friends to call him to “help” fix things. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed going canoeing and fishing with his grandchildren. Popi’s great-grandchildren enjoyed his many “hug-a bugs”. Family was very important to Dad, and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his daughters, Diane Farris and her husband Karl, and Dale Keesler and her husband, Joel; grandchildren, Kristen Bruyn (Kevin), Jeffrey Farris (Michelle), Samantha Keesler (Katherine), Jessica Wolf (Adam), Kaitlyn Masino, Richard Gallo Jr., and Justin Gallo; and 15 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister, Antoinette Provencher and brother-in-law, Bill, and sister, Kathleen Wright and brother-in-law, Jim, sisters-in-laws, Janet Treglia, Barbara Goetschius (Doug), and Terry Hoffman (Harry) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Ruth, he was predeceased by a son: Richard J. Gallo Sr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 27 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 28 at 11am at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 High Street in Bloomingburg with Fr. Anthony Trung Nguyen, O.Carm officiating.
