Obituary of Maria A. Nunez

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maria Angela Nunez (aka Monty) of Monticello passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 in Harris, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 68 when she left us.

Maria was born August 22, 1953 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico and was later a longtime resident of Sullivan County. She loved playing bingo so much we called her THE BINGO QUEEN. She loved to cook for her family and everyone’s favorite was her rice and beans (Arroz Con Gandules), but her grandkids really truly put the biggest smile on her face.

She is survived by four sons: Florencio Torres Jr., Edwardo Torres, Anthony Franco aka Tony, and Michael Coney, all of Monticello; a daughter: Carmen Lysiak of Monticello; her grandchildren: Dawson, Nikko, Alexus, Bella, Gracie, Olivia, Buster, Sophia, Josh, Kayla and Reggie; a brother: Ismael; two daughters-in-law, Nicole Franco and Christine Torres; and one son-in-law Brian Lysiak; and many nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings: Merita, Mingo, Piri, Nengue, Matilde, Cheo and Ramon.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you plant a tree in her name through the funeral homes website www.kennyfuneralhome.com under her obituary.

Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
