Obituary of Michael J. Gilligan

Michael John Gilligan of Wurtsboro, died unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the age of 30.  He was born November 30, 1991 in Kingston.

Michael was enjoying life being one with nature. He loved to be out skateboarding through town daily. Our favorite thing that we all did together was our spur of the moment vacations. We would pick a place and just drive there. Our favorite place to go was Salem - he loved it there. He was the one to go the extra mile for anyone he knew when they needed help with anything.  He enjoyed working on his artwork (drawing), always coming up with another great piece.  He really enjoyed playing games online with his friends daily; a lot of them from overseas.  Recently he wanted to join the army and was waiting to hear back on that.  He wanted to get a motorcycle, got his permit, and was doing what he really wanted to do in life.  He is missed daily.  I know he is with Grandpa and being watched over….til we meet again.

He is survived by his parents: Paula and James Edwards, of Wurtsboro; and two brothers: John Edwards and David Kinne, both of Wurtsboro.  He was predeceased by his grandfather, Robert John Gilligan; his grandmother, Hattie Edwards; a great aunt, Patricia Scheubensky; and a great uncle, Charles Scott.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with a funeral service starting at 12:00 noon.  Burial will follow at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.
