Obituary of Lee M. "Babe" Walters Jr.
Babe Walters passed away at home in Wurtsboro on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Lea (Burger) Walters, of Wurtsboro; his daughters Terri Walters (Diane) of Cape May, New Jersey, and Jean Webb (James) of Millsboro, Delaware; his granddaughter, Victoria DiMarzo (Dean) of Hyde Park, New York; his sister, Jacqueline Newell of Bloomingburg, New York; nephews Chuck and Bobby, and nieces Vickie, Jody and Laurie; and his dear friends Paul and Kathy Perry. He is predeceased by his father, Lee M. Walters, Sr, his mother, Josephine (Jones) Walters York, his stepfather, Russell York, and his older brothers, Charles and Robert Walters.
Babe was a life-long resident of the area, and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Lea in 1957, and they moved with their family to the Wurtsboro area in 1972, where he built a house, and lived out his life doing the things he loved, including hunting, fishing and tinkering. He would often be found outside, involved in a project in his “shop,” mowing the lawn, watching the animals in the back yard, cutting wood, or simply relaxing with a beer. He was an avid outdoorsman, and sportsman, and appreciated the quiet and stillness of the woods. He loved and respected the environment, and all of God’s creatures, and encouraged others to do the same.
He was a member of Teamsters Union (Local 445), and he worked for various companies, including Starr Block and 3-D Block.
The family would like to thank the people of Hospice, especially Kathleen and Heather, and his WillCare nurse, Sarah. Donations can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Memorial visitation will be held on Monday, April 18 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with a memorial service starting at 6:30pm.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
