Obituary of Lance Tursi

Please share a memory of Lance to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lance Tursi, a lifetime resident of Monticello, NY passed onto his home with God on Sunday, March 27, 2022 after a long, hard-fought battle with addiction. He was 50 years old.

Lance was born on May 23, 1971.  He was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband and friend to all who knew him.  Lance loved his family, his friends, music and was the happiest when he was one with nature.  He was a free spirit. Whether tearing off on his motorcycle or dodging sharks to pluck sponges from the bottom of the ocean, he was always up for an adventure.  He was incredibly smart, graduating valedictorian with a degree in Environmental Science.

Lance had a great respect for animals and the environment and was most at peace standing in the middle of a river in his waders with a fly rod in his hand, listening to the movement of the water. Despite his own struggles, Lance always greeted you with a smile.  He was a kind and genuine soul who would help a friend in need or a total stranger. He was infectiously funny, musically talented, quick to pick up a guitar and belt out a tune.  He loved to laugh and tell stories, and when he did, people hung on every animated word.

Lance had a very strong faith in God which often carried him through his most difficult days.  He is survived by his loving parents Luke and Edna Tursi; his sister Laura Lee Wechsler (Ron); sister Lisa Gridley (Tim); nephews Jake, Ryan, Trent and Ben; his wife Joanne; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many wonderful friends.

There will be no visitation.  A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello, NY with Father Bob Porpora officiating.  Interment of his ashes will be held immediately following the service at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Forestburgh, NY.
