Obituary of Emelie J. Lauter
Emelie Jane Lauter of Kauneonga Lake, NY, a retired cook for the Monticello Central Schools, passed away on February 20, 2022 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh, NY. She was 82.
The daughter of the late Erwin J. Browne and Alice Stoneburg Browne, she was born February 19, 1940 in Goshen, New York. She was the widow of Arthur B. Lauter who predeceased her in 1978.
Emelie was a member of the Little Britain Presbyterian Church in New Windsor, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a former member of the Little Britain Grange in New Windsor and the VFW Post in Monticello. Upon retirement, she participated in the Grandparent’s Program within the Monticello School District. Emelie was an avid reader and enthusiast of word games and crossword puzzles. Her other hobby was crocheting. She made many blankets for her family and friends and a seemingly endless supply of winter hats which she donated every year to the children at the Cooke School in Monticello. Emelie will be remembered for her famous chocolate chip cookies, her gallons of homemade iced tea, and her collection of African Violets, which she proudly started from leaf cuttings. Anyone who knew Emelie was touched by her kindness. She was an empathetic listener who cared greatly for others.
She is survived by her children: Edmond Lauter (Leslie) of Manalapan, NJ, Victoria Heddricks (James) of Montgomery, Crystal Hector (Michael) of Narrowsburg, and Carrie Lauter (Kevin Zaraszczak) of White Lake; seven grandchildren: Faith, Kristen (Jesse), Jessica, Crescent, Ocean, Grace and Jonathan; three great grandchildren: Hope, Jesse, Jr. and Chase; two brothers: Martin Browne (Dawn) and Charles Browne (Lynn);
| several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Rascal. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Harry; and a sister, Sharon.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello with a funeral service starting at 6:30pm. Graveside services and burial will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 11:00am at the Little Britain Church Cemetery, 647 Station Road in New Windsor, NY.
