Obituary of Evelyn Young

Evelyn Young, 94, of Wurtsboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 19, 2022 at the Middletown Park Rehab & Health Care Center after a brief illness.

Evelyn was born on August 10, 1927 to Damietta Miller in Brooklyn, NY. Her beloved husband of 68 years Eugene Young passed away in 2017 and all her family truly believe they are both very happy to be with each other again.

She is survived by her three sons: Eugene B Young III and wife Cheryl of Syracuse, NY; Henry Young and wife Nancy of Wurtsboro; and Michael Young and wife Charlene of Wurtsboro; six grandchildren: Miranda, husband Charles and their daughter Emily; Gregory, wife Jawhara and their sons Cameron, Brennan and Preston; Brent, wife Jamey and their son William; Erin, husband Jon and their daughters Fiona and Sylvie; Colleen; and Matthew (Becca); and her niece Elizabeth Krupp and husband Frank.

Evelyn was a loving, caring, strong, spiritual woman, who cared greatly for her family. She worked for many years as the Mamakating Deputy Town Clerk but spent a large part of her life being a wonderful mom, grandma and great-grandma. She truly loved spending evenings with her husband Gene sitting together on their sofa in the front room sharing their love for each other and their family. She will always be remembered for her kindness and “big blue eyes”. She was a beautiful person both inside and out and will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.  Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 27 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
