Obituary of Shirley G. Calhoun
Shirley Grace Calhoun of Monticello, a retired telephone operator for New York Telephone, passed away on Christmas Eve, 2021 at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown. She was 91.
The daughter of the late Lester John Price and Florence Adelaide VanKeuren Price, she was born March 18, 1930 in Monticello. She was the widow of Stanley G. Calhoun who predeceased her on January 14, 1992.
She was known for her love of the Mets and her famous fudge. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many.
She is survived by her two sons: Stanley G. Calhoun & his wife LuAnn, and Raymond Calhoun & his wife Lisa, all of Monticello; grandchildren: Barbara Turick, Marilee Calhoun, Stanley H. Calhoun, Rebecca Calhoun, Brandi Gropp, Ryan Poley, Kelsey Calhoun and Andrew Calhoun; great-grandchildren: Jalissa Melendez, Selena Melendez, Jose Melendez Jr, Mackenzie Turick, Peyton Murran, Landon Hallock and Gavin Poley; her siblings: Carol Surerus, Marilyn Taylor and Donald Price; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter: Sheryl “Sherri” Eggleston; and siblings Violet “Toot” Calhoun, Arnold “Scoop” Price, Lester Price, Raymond Price, Thomas Price and Robert Price.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 10am at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow at Messenger Cemetery in Monticello.
