Obituary of William G. Hourihan

William Hourihan of Wurtsboro, a former resident of Cliffwood, NJ, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown.  He was 82.

 

The son of the late William G. Hourihan and Agnes Gallagher Hourihan, he was born September 25, 1939 in New York City. 

 

Billy joined the United States Marine Corps. in February 1957 at the age of 17 and went on to get his GED while serving his country. He was stationed for 2 years in Okinawa Japan.  After serving, he worked for 30 years in building maintenance, finishing the last 12 years as a Foreman at 1 New York Plaza. He received a letter of accommodation for his bravery during the attacks on 9/11. He was always a family man and was so proud of his nieces and nephews through the years.

 

He is survived by his sisters Patricia Talbot and Maureen McNally, as well as a brother Rich Hourihan; nephews Robert, Christopher, and niece Kelli Talbot, and Frank and Michael McNally, Christian and Kerby Hourihan; and seven grand nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Mary.

 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 28 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.  His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29 at 11am at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, High Street in Bloomingburg with Fr. Nicholas Blackwell, O.Carm officiating.
