Obituary of Joan C. Stanton
Joan C. Stanton of Monticello passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Harris. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Zigmund Rydzeski and Lillian M. Campbell Rydzeski, she was born February 19, 1936
in the Bronx.
Joan (known to many as “Nona”) was very well known and loved. To know her was to love her. Whether you spoke with her for 10 minutes, or a lifetime, she left a lasting impression. She had a very unique personality that will never be duplicated or forgotten. She owned the County Seat social club on Jefferson Street in Monticello for many years. She was a very strong willed, selfless, & giving woman. She touched many lives with her presence. She was the most understanding, compassionate person you’ll ever meet. She enjoyed cooking and always made sure to feed everyone; even homeless/strangers. She absolutely loved children. Family was everything to her and she never wanted anyone upset. She enjoyed playing cards, owned many horses, loved to take drives and go yard sailing with her husband. She was always a very stylish woman. Earrings had to match the outfit. Her hair was always done, and her makeup was just right. Nona was a gentle soul who smiled through whatever life brought her way. She truly made the best of life and played the hand she was dealt like it was the hand she wanted. There was never a time she wasn’t there when we needed her. She will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her husband: Preston "Buddy" Stanton, at home; a daughter: Tara Solomon & her husband Doug Solomon; a son: Troy Rossi & his wife Veronica Merton; her grandchildren: Talia Pless, Shana Rossi/Smith, Tyler Solomon, Troy Rossi Jr, Christina Rossi & John Rossi; great grandchildren: Isabella Rossi, Bronson LaPolt, Emily Rossi, Leanne Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Braxton Smith, and Isaac Smith; and a sister: Lillian Hendrickson. She was predeceased by her sisters Francis Sexton, Florence Bierce, Carol Lynch; and her brother Charles “Sunny” Rydzeski.
