Istvan I. Kertesz of Emerald Green, NY passed away on Sunday December 6th, 2009 at home.He was born on June 10, 1940 in Budapest, Hungary and was the beloved son of the late Istvan Kertesz and Lujza Kalix Kertesz.Istvan (Steve) was a kind, loving, gentle man who enjoyed music, books and science. He was a 1965 graduate of the Culinary Institute of Budapest, Hungary. His pastries decorated the covers of many publications and his culinary creations will be remembered by all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband and a cherished father. He will be remembered and treasured in our hearts forever.He is survived by his loving wife: Margit Kertesz; daughter: Dawn H. Gobeo and her husband Michael of Middletown, NY; a sister: Zsuzsa Illyes and her husband Karoly of Budapest, Hungary; mother-in-law: Marta Kovacs of Taksony, Hungary; sister-in-law: Erzsebet Kovacs of Budapest, Hungary; sister in law: Maria Pillmayer, of Budapest Hungary; nephew: Zolt Illyes and his wife Erika of Budapest, Hungary; niece: Kristi Csaba of Budapest, Hungary; niece: Ditti Kubany and her husband Attila of Budapest, Hungary; niece: Vera Pillmayer of Budapest Hungary; and several great-nephews and nieces in Hungary.His funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 10 from at 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home from 6:30pm until the time of the service.As per Istvan's wishes, his ashes will be returned to his birthplace of Budapest, Hungary for a private family service and burial.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Istvan's memory be made to the American Lung Assoc., 300 Winners Circle, Suite 300, Albany, NY 12205 or to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
