Obituary of Rebecca L. Mitchell

Rebecca Louise Mitchell, a retired Unit Secretary at Community General Hospital in Harris, NY, and a health care worker, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at her home in Monticello surrounded by her loving family.  She was 69 years old.

The daughter of the late Reverend Benjamin Drayton Sr. and Lillie Mae McNealy Drayton, she was born November 9, 1951 in Philadelphia, PA.

Rebecca graduated from Monticello high school in 1970.She went on to community college to major in business. Rebecca loved family and always encouraged those who she came in contact with. Rebecca seemed to always have a kind word to say. Rebecca worked throughout the medical field over the years serving in different capacities. Rebecca served on the usher board committee. She served on the missionary board. She was an active member of the community. Many years ago Rebecca directed the youth choir at First Baptist Church. Rebecca loved the Lord and made sure to tell everyone everywhere she went . The Lord was her anchor through every storm and she made sure to instill that in her children and family near and far. She will be missed dearly by those who knew her and were graced with her beautiful light. Rebecca's children and grandchildren mourn such a great loss, however heaven has gained its greatest angel. 

She is survived by her three children: Vanetta Lane (George), Damon Mitchell Sr. and Jada Mitchell; 18 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; her siblings: Virginia McDowell, Benjamin Drayton Jr, James Drayton, Frank Drayton, and Ledora Drayton; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Robert McNealy; a sister Mary Drayton; and her beloved son Kareem Mitchell.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 14th at 12:00 noon at the Bethlehem Temple Church, 93 Fairground Road in Monticello with Bishop Audrey E. Giles officiating.  Viewing will be from 11am to 12pm at the church.  Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello. Due to the current health crisis, social distancing guidelines must be met - a limited number of people at one time will be allowed in the church, and facemasks are required. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bethlehem Temple Church.
