Visitation
Obituary of Michael L. Hilleary
The man who told stories of his life has passed. Michael Lee Hilleary of Wurtsboro passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown. He was 61.
Mike could captivate anyone with the stories of his past. There was just that much humor to his tales that everyone should be as lucky to have such recollections. The story of the bunny suit and the motorcycle club stands out, although it was probably not the one he would have considered his finer moment,…but that was Mike. Then of course there was the day he proposed to his wife Darcy, on his knees. He always claimed that he had fallen down from drinking too much vodka and never touched the stuff again. There must have been something to it though because they were married for 27 years. An avid bow hunter and fisherman, he was always looking for that secret spot that no one else would know about. Mike had a tradition for years on the eve of opening day of deer season, where his wife would make her homemade sauce (“Darcy Sauce”) to celebrate. Dearly loved and missed, but forever in our thoughts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darcy Horn Hilleary, at home; brother-in-law, Dane Horn & his wife Terri Pinto, Robert Boyle, Darryl Horn, Dee Maurizzio and Jeff Morley; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends and family, from his hometown of Piqua, Ohio to his home for the last 40 years in Wurtsboro. He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Dapore; and in-laws: John & Theresa Horn and Deborah Boyle.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 15 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
