Obituary of Odessa Lewis

Please share a memory of Odessa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Odessa Harriet Lewis was born on May 15, 1932, in Bromley, Alabama, to the late Johnnie Armstead and Eleanor Sledge Armstead.  On August 10, 2021, the Master called and Odessa answered.

Odessa was employed by Catskill Regional Medical Center as a Nursing Assistant and retired after many years of dedicated service.

Odessa met and married Jesse Lewis, Sr. in 1950 and had two children, Jesse and Barbara.  They were married for 26 years.

Odessa was passionate about many things.  She loved watching basketball and was a Lebron James fan.  She loved watching tennis, her soap operas, and family feud, as Steve Harvey was one of her favorites.  She also enjoyed playing Bingo, Pokeno, and doing crossword puzzles. Out of all of the things she held dear, her family was her most precious gem.  Odessa will be remembered for checking in on her family and minding everyone’s business! *smile*

Odessa was predeceased by her parents; five brothers, Charlie, Johnnie, Clarence, Lealton, and Lawrence Armstead; and two sisters, Dorothy Warren and Evelyn Holland.

Odessa leaves behind to cherish her memories -  two children, Barbara Heckstall and Jesse Lewis, Jr. (Darlene), both of Monticello, NY; three siblings, Rosabelle Fore, Olice Williams and Leo (Annie) Armstead; eleven grandchildren, Marlon Hines, DeShawn Hines, Na’im Warner, Ronique Warner, Ronald Warner, Jr., Jesse Lewis, III, Allah Lewis, Spencer Lewis, Jessica Lewis, Charmaine Lloyd, and Gregory White; twenty great-grandchildren, her first great-granddaughter whom she helped raise, Shaniqwa Hines, Desiree Pace, Shakiah York, Dejarah York, DayShawn York, Markeese Hines, Devown Hines, Monaysia Hines, Malaysia Hines, Tyrell Hines, Tajiq Holman, Rahmeik Warner, Nakyia Warner, Naim Warner, Jr., Nahsiim Warner, Nyani Warner, Xavier Outlaw, Kyari Melendez, Keira Smalls, Jylasia Hardy; and a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A famous author, Thomas Campbell once said, “To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.”  Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal.   Sleep in peace, Odessa.
