Obituary of Alice V. Picarello

Alice E. (Verlini) Picarello,a retired registered nurse and lifelong area resident of Sackett Lake, died Friday, July 9, 2021 at Garnet Health Medical Center in Harris NY.  She was 96.

Alice was born February 25, 1925. She was the daughter of Alfred and Angela (Battaliga) Verlini .

Alice is survived by her son; John of Parksville, Her daughter-in-law Suzanne Picarello, her grandchild Angela Volk (Neil), two great grandchildren: Natalia and Reid Volk and her Godchild Kathleen Alice Kreiter of Monticello, along with many dear nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Albert (Bert) Picarello and her beloved son, Albert (Biff) Picarello Jr. Alice’s family meant so very much to her. Her sons and grandchildren were of course the apple of her eye. But every relative –by blood or by choice- held a special place in her heart.

Everyone who knew Alice knew of her mastery in the kitchen. If you knew her well, you shared many a delicious meal or fabulous dessert over her kitchen table or yours. A proud alumna of Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener program, Alice had a green thumb that was reflected over the years in her beautiful flower and bountiful vegetable gardens. The Monticello Seniors played an important part later in Alice’s’ life, where she spent many hours playing cards & bingo with her friends. Always outspoken, Alice wore her passions and opinions on her sleeve. She was small in stature, but larger than life to all who loved her. “… and though she be but little, she is fierce”

A Memorial Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 3rd at VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway Monticello, NY at 2 pm with a service starting at 3 pm. Burial will follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery Sunset Lake Road, Liberty NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Alice’s name to the Federation for the Homeless P.O. Box 336 Monticello NY 12701 .
