Ronald Robert Kemp “Ronnie” of Rock Hill, a retired telecommunication specialist for Verizon went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 25, 2021 at his residence on Wanasink Lake. He was 75.

 

Ron was born on September 14, 1945 in Wellsville, NY to Don and Mary (Lehman) Kemp.  He was a 1964 graduate of Andover Central School. In 1964, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Josephus Daniels, as well as the USS America and reached the rank of E4.  His military service was a great source of pride during his life.  After his separation from the military in 1968, Ron returned to Andover, NY to commence his life-long career in telecommunications.  On November 8, 1975, Ron married Wanda Cornelius who predeceased him in 1988 and is the mother of his two children, Shane and Heather.  On April 6, 1991, Ron married Jo Beth Scovazzo and spent 30 wonderful years with her until his death.

Ron is survived by his wife, Jo Beth Kemp of Rock Hill, NY; a son, Shane (Julie) Kemp of Tallahassee, FL; a daughter, Heather (Kristopher) Boone of Pittsboro, NC; two brothers, Don (Linda) Kemp of Branchport, NY and David Kemp of Fairport, NY.  One sister, Ruth (Fred) Johnson of Savona, NY; a sister-in-law, Lori Scovazzo of Bellmore, NY; a brother-in-law, Anthony (Diane) Scovazzo of West Hempstead, NY; two grandsons, Kameron and Clark Boone; a niece, Danielle (John) Mirabella; a nephew, Anthony Scovazzo; and many other nieces, nephews, and several cousins.

In addition to his first wife, Wanda, Ron was predeceased by a sister, Betty Caralis.

Ron was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He could always be depended on to provide guidance, love, and assistance throughout his life.  He always made friends out of neighbors, community members, or strangers wherever he would go.

He was also an extremely skilled handy man who could do just about anything from building beautiful furniture to rewiring a house.  He loved advising and sharing his knowledge with others and being a part of a project, no matter the scope and size.

Ron will be forever remembered and loved for his passion for life, his empathy for others, and his kind spirit.

Memorial services will be held in private. Memorial contributions in Ron’s name may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) at planned giving@vva.org
