July 23, 1935 – June 14, 2021
Patricia Oakes, 85, of Monticello entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 14, 2021, of natural causes at her home in Monticello. Patty was born in Monticello on July 23, 1935, to Cyril T. Smith and Mary T. Ryan Smith.
Patty was a horse owner and trainer at the Monticello Raceway which was her whole life. She loved her family and friends and considered her fellow harness trainers and drivers as both. Especially Neat, Eleanor, April and the Taggart family whom all remained in her life and by her side until the end.
Patty was predeceased by her beloved husband George V. Oakes in 1993; her father, Cyril T. Smith in 1979; her mother Mary T. Ryan Smith in 1973; one brother Cyril J. “Dickie” Smith in 2014, a sister Dorothy M. Enright in 2015 and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by a nephew, Richard "Mike" Enright and his wife Lydia. We would like to express our thanks for the support and help from the many Hospice volunteers who helped make Patty’s wish of spending her final days at home with family.
As per Patty’s wishes a private cremation will be honored and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. www.hospiceoforange.com
