Obituary of Ann Clements

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ann Clements (nee Orantis), 103, of Monticello died Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in Liberty.  She was born near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1917, and was orphaned as a young teen.  She moved to Monticello to find work, and met the love of her life Howard, who invited her to a “weenie roast.”  Together they ran a successful garage and Texaco service station on St. John Street, although the greatest fulfillment she received was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She resided in the home her husband built in 1940 on Woodcliff Avenue until she was 103 with the assistance of the church members, many friends, and her granddaughter, Kathryn.  She had sparkling blue eyes, was sharp witted and retained her sense of humor until the end.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Howard, and devoted son Howard Jr.  as well as her sisters Mary and Helen, and her son-in-law David Oyler.  Ann is survived by her daughter Anne (Nan) Clements Oyler of Wilmington, Delaware; her daughter-in-law Virginia Kuhns Clements of Baltimore, Maryland; two grandchildren, Lester Hendrix (Kate), and Kathryn Hendrix of Delaware as well as six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 10 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello with a Mass at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m.  Due to the current health crisis, social distancing guidelines must be met - a limited number of people at one time will be allowed in the funeral home and at the church, and facemasks are required. Interment in the family plot at St. John Street Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. John’s Episcopal Church where she and her husband were devoted members and had many friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
