Obituary of Betty Jane Vassello
Betty J. Vassello passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 12th, 2021. She was 95 years old.
Betty was born in Hoosick Falls, New York on October 10th, 1925 to parents Joseph Miller and Marion Pike. She was one of 7 siblings: Viola, Florence, Lillian, Ruth, and Dorothy and Joseph.
They grew up together on a small farm, each doing daily chores from attending chickens, hogs, gardens, and carrying 2 pails of water daily from a nearby spring and burning coal for cooking and heating.
After high school Betty went to New York City and became certified in Phlebotomy and worked for doctors until her marriage to Daniel Joseph Vassello on December 30th, 1948.
Betty and Dan’s 51 years of marriage included having 5 children: Deborah, Daniel, Linda, Douglas and Paul.
Betty was very creative and skilled in arts and crafts, knitting, painting, decorating and more and volunteered her time and talents in several endeavors such as knitting hats for newborns, blankets for newborns and veterans, volunteering at the food pantry creating quilts for charity, volunteered at the Middletown Hospital’s Thrift Store and more. She was also involved in the Red Hat Society for several years. She always gave of herself to volunteer and charity work. She was a great Mom and was always there for everyone and we will all miss her!
She is survived by her daughter Linda Vassello of Mongaup Valley, NY and sons Douglas (Sharon) Vassello of Hillsborough, NC and Paul Vassello of Liberty, NY; grandchildren Sarah Vassello and Nick Vassello of Hillsborough NC; Georgia McKenna of Wurtsboro NY, John (Maria) Vassello of Binghamton NY, Joseph Vassello of Binghamton NY, Marie Oropallo of Binghamton, NY. Jennifer Vassello of Binghamton, NY, Allison Vassello of Buffalo NY and 9 Great Grandkids.
Betty is preceded in death by her sisters and brother, her daughter Deborah, her husband Dan who passed away on December 19th, 1999 at the age of 71, and her son Daniel Jr.
The Memorial Service is scheduled for a later date in Hoosick Falls, NY.
