Sheldon T. Peters, a security guard at Monticello Raceway, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at his home in Monticello. He was 59. The son of the late William Peters & Elvira Barber Peters, he was born July 9, 1950 in Brooklyn. Sheldon was known for his happy personality and having the ability to make people laugh. He was a great provider for his family and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Viola Still Peters, at home; a son: Brian Peters of Monticello; a daughter: Kera Peters; his brothers and sisters: Mitchell, Cheryl, Laurie, Carolyn, Debra and Andre; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 9-11am at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will follow at 11:00am with Reverend James Mathews officiating. Burial will follow at the Liberty Cemetery on Cold Spring Road in Liberty.
