Obituary of George A. Martinek

George A. Martinek of LaPlace, Louisiana passed away on November 15, 2020 at Ochsner Medical Center, Kenner, LA. He was 67.

 

The son of the late George C. and Ella (Albrecht) Martinek, he was born March 13, 1953 in Monticello, NY.

 

George graduated Monticello High School class of 1971. He enjoyed hunting and motocross motorcycle racing and was a member of the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian and the Boy Scout Troop.  He graduated SUNY Delhi with an A.A.S. degree in 1973.

 

In 1975 he moved to Louisiana where he pursued a career in the construction industry. After working for several construction firms in 1979 he joined the prestigious architect, design & building firm of Carl E. Woodard Inc. of New Orleans, LA.  Starting as a laborer, he advanced to foremen and in 1990 was promoted to supervisor overseeing a workforce of over 200 tradesmen for large commercial projects.  While working for the firm he traveled to neighboring states: Texas, Florida, Mississippi and throughout the South.  In 2006 after 27 years with the firm he retired to his home in LaPlace where he enjoyed cooking, fishing, duck hunting and golf.

 

George is survived by his brother Charlie Martinek, sister Donna Mulvey and her husband Mickey, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and his extended family and longtime friends Ann & Dane Clement, Carl & BJ Freeman and Emma Freeman of Louisiana. Along with his parents he was predeceased by a brother Ronald Martinek.

           

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, December 12 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Due to the current health crisis, social distancing guidelines must be met - a limited number of people at one time will be allowed in the funeral home, and facemasks are required. Interment of his ashes will be held at a later date at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
