Obituary of Beris E. Bowen

Please share a memory of Beris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Beris Bowen was born on May 28, 1951 in Kingston Jamaica, WI, to the late Walter Bowen and Louise Hedge-Bowen.  Sadly, on December 5, 2020, Beris passed away at the age of 69.

He married Rose Taylor and raised three daughters and a son. They were together for 48 years. Beris migrated to the United States in May 1987 and lived in Monticello NY until his passing. He kept the memory of his homeland alive through music, and in cooking the unique cuisines of Jamaica. He was a homebody, loved working on small carpentry projects, gardening and fishing.

Beris is survived by his wife, Rose Bowen; two daughters, Patricia Bowen and Sophia Bowen; one son, Berris Bowen; seven grandchildren, Fiona (Shawna) Forshay, Maria Forshay, Te-Nia MacFarlane, Demetria Bowen, Deandrea Bowen, Berris Deonte Bowen, and Talia Panton; two brothers, two sisters, several nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Oswald Bowen; and his daughter, Cleo Bowen.

A public viewing will be held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello NY on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 9 AM to 10 AM, followed immediately by a private funeral service, officiated by Bishop Simms. Interment will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello NY. Due to the current health crisis, social distancing guidelines must be met - a limited number of people at one time will be allowed in the funeral home, and facemasks are required. Due to these challenges of the Pandemic, the Bowen Family will hold a celebration of life memorial at a later date, when it’s safe to do so.

Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
