Wayne M. Giggey, a longtime resident of Wurtsboro, slipped peacefully into the arms of the angels on Monday, September 28, 2009 at ORMC - Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 66. Born to Gladys Burhans on June 21, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, he was later adopted by his stepfather Wendell Giggey. Wayne served in the United States Army in Germany and was very proud of his service to his country. He retired as a stationary engineer from Eastern Correctional Facility in 2001. Wayne was also very proud of and involved in his Native American heritage and loved to dance at Pow-Wows in full regalia. In native tradition the family will not say good-bye, but rather we say "Ona gay wahay" which is Iroquois for "See you later". He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Booth Giggey, at home; three sons: David Giggey & his wife Doreen of Middletown, Brian Giggey of Fishkill and Patrick Giggey & his wife Karie of upstate NY; a daughter: Gina Byrne & her husband Mike of York, PA; two granddaughters; two grandsons; five sisters; three brothers; his mother-in-law; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He also leaves behind his seven beloved cats. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister and two brothers. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 4-7pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1 at 10:00am at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Meyer officiating.
