Obituary of Katherine J. Walker

Katherine J. Springs Walker of Monticello died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 70. She was born April 19, 1939 to the late Mr. Jack and Mrs. Daphne Springs Sr. of Johns Is. SC and after completing her education she married the late Heyward Frasier Jr. of Charleston S.C. and to this union three children were born: Iris, Heyward(Ricky) and Andrew. She later moved to Monticello where she met and married the late Joseph Walker Jr. She was a wonderful person and loved working with children. She was employed with the Monticello Schools as a foster grandparent until her passing. Kathy loved to cook, play bingo and knit. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters: Iris White of Charleston S.C. and Karina Walker (Ally) of Monticello; six sisters: Mary E. Johnson of N.Y., Anna Shackelford (James) of Queens, Mary S. Gillians of N.Y., Martha S. Rivers and Rosealy S. Geddis (Benjamin) of Johns Is. S.C. and Helena E. Springs of NY; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, a mother-in-law and five sisters-in-law all of Monticello NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Katherine had two sons and four brothers that preceded her in death. Blessed be to God who comforts us in all our trials. 2 Cor.1:3,4. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27 from 4-7pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, September 28, at 12:00pm at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road in Monticello with a viewing from 11am up until the time of service.
