Obituary of Lori Stephanie Madison
Lori Stephanie Madison-Outley was born October 26, 1973, in Harlem, New York. The only living child of Julius Madison and Brenda Madison-Windley. Her younger years were spent in Harlem, AKA “2430” and Corona, NY, living with her grandmother Sylvia, mother Brenda, aunt Renee and cousin/brother Brian. Lori attended schools: P.S. 143, St. Gabriel School and Dominican Commercial High School. She was an above average student who participated in cheerleading and who often spoke of one day possibly joining a sorority due to her love for cheering and stepping. Lori graduated high school in 1991 and decided to go into the working field immediately following graduation.
Lori’s first job was at Alexander’s department store where she gained notable experience as a sales associate. Lori enjoyed working in the banking industry. She held bank teller positions at American Express Credit Union in the World Trade Center in Manhattan, NY as well as Chase Manhattan Bank in Jackson Heights, NY. She also held a retail position at the Children’s Place for a brief period of time. She took the New York City and State workers test where there was a waiting list. Her patience paid off. Eight years later, she accepted a clerical associate position with the City of New York at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, NY.
In 1988, while hanging out with her cousin Rhonda at the Statue of Liberty, she met the man who would one day become her husband Diall (Dale) Outley. Dale worked at the Statue of Liberty food concession when he noticed Lori standing in line. It was love at first sight. Once she was at the register, he offered her free food and politely asked for her phone number. The next day, he called her to come back to his job to meet again. She did just that and once again he gave her free food. While Dale was swooning Lori, his boss noticed him socializing with a customer and let Dale go that same day. From then on, they never spent a day apart from one another.
On June 14, 1995, Lori and Dale walked down the aisle. They welcomed their first child Orion in 1996 and moved to Cambria Heights, NY. They moved back to Lori’s childhood home in Corona, NY, where all of their children (Kydale in 1998 and Chynna in 2001) would be raised.
Her love for her husband and children prompted Lori to consider moving from Corona, NY to Middletown, NY in the 2010’s. Her new life started in Middletown, where the family adjusted to the slower pace of life. It never stopped there, being that her goal was to be a homeowner. In 2018, she finally achieved her goal of owning her own home with Dale in Monticello, NY. Lori adored being a homeowner and was passionate about home improvement projects.
Many considered Lori to be reserved and quiet, but in fact, Lori was an avid cook, self-trained beautician and a fan of all music from Old-School and Contemporary R&B, Hip-Hop, Reggae and Pop to Rock and Roll. She loved comedy, old school TV shows and was a true lover of all films. Lori dressed to impress and was a trendsetter – whether it be hairstyles, clothing or getting her nose pierced (which was just coming into style in the early 90’s). Her other hobbies included gardening, interior decorating, traveling, shopping and playing Candy Crush. A “self-proclaimed restaurant tour guide,” she and Dale would often talk of traveling to Europe and planned to vacation to Italy in the upcoming year. Lori also enjoyed vacations to the Amish country in Lancaster, PA with her family along with her cousin Kim and her family. When in PA, Lori considered a stop at Philly’s Reading Terminal Market mandatory.
Her unwavering love for family, her kindness and selflessness were what stood out most in her beautiful life. She was a loving daughter, wife and mom as well as a great listener and giver of advice. Her outlook on life was always positive and her love for Jesus was the backbone of her strength. Lori was a Catholic who attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church (Corona, NY) and St. Gabriel Church (East Elmhurst, NY) for many years.
Her presence stretched greatly throughout her extended family and was loved by all. She maintained a great rapport with everyone whether young or old and always welcomed you with open arms.
Lori passed away the morning of June 27, 2020. She is survived by her mother Brenda Windley, her father Jerry Windley; husband, Dale; three children, Orion, Kydale and Chynna; brother-in-law and sister-in-laws and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed dearly.
