Obituary of Ardiss E. VanInwegen
Please share a memory of Ardiss to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ardiss E. VanInwegen, of Wanaksink Lake, died Wednesday, December 13, 2012 in The Royal Nursing Home of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. She was the matriarch of the family and led a remarkable life for almost 101 years. She was married for 65 years to her late husband, Benson W. VanInwegen and together they ran the VanInwegen Funeral Home in Monticello until retirement in 1968.
Ardiss was born Jan 6, 1912 in Rockville Centre NY to the late Luella Combes and Harry B. Weeks. After the death of her father, her mother married Mervin Schoonmaker, who had 3 boys, Royce, Ralph and Wilbur, who were thrilled to have a "big" sister.
Mimi, as she was called by the grandkids, will be missed by her extensive loving family which includes her children and their families, extended family, god-children and close friends.
Over the years, both she and Ben were very active members of the community. Ardiss was very active in numerous community organizations, including Eastern Star, Grange, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and local historical society. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and an involved participant of the women's guild. For many years, she was a Red Cross volunteer and among other things provided communications to active service men and women obtaining leaves for them in times of need.
Ardiss and Ben provided multiple levels of support to many families as an integral part of the funeral home services. Their home was open to all. Family and friends grew everlasting bonds through the strengths of Ardiss and Benson VanInwegen, two very remarkable people. Friends may call from 10 am to 11 am on Monday, December 17, 2012 in the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. following visitation hour. Burial will be in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Bloomingburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John's Episcopal Church or a local charity of one's choice.
