Margaret Mary McManus Kavanagh of Wurtsboro, a retired paraprofessional with the New York City Schools, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 78.The daughter of the late Jeremiah J. Walsh and Margaret Mary Shea Walsh, she was born November 24, 1930 in the Bronx. She was the widow of Michael Kavanagh who predeceased her on November 17, 1999.Known for her sense of humor, Margaret was a devout Catholic who also devoted her life to her children. She was a member of the United Federation of Teachers and obtained her drivers license when she was 70 years old.She is survived by her children: Eileen McManus of Middletown, Maeve Bolger & her husband James of Greenville, Kathleen Mueller & her husband Ronald of Cheshire, CT, Margaret Gethmann & her husband Gary of the state of Florida, Shelia Dowd & her husband Eddie of the Bronx, Michael Kavanagh & his wife Audrey of the Bronx, Suzanne Kavanagh & her life partner Chris Walsh of the Bronx and Caitlyn Kavanagh & her life partner Jenny Azmitia of Wurtsboro; her grandchildren: Gina, Joseph, Julie, Brian, Lauren, Ann, Meghan, Erin, Sean, Gary, Eric, Haylee & Edwin; her great grandchildren: Kenna, Brooks, Kayla, Grace & Jack; two brothers: John Walsh of Hazlet, NJ and Danny Walsh of McAfee, NJ; a sister: Eileen Nolan of Baldwin; and several nieces & nephews.Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial will follow in the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mustard Seed Migrant Ministry, 357 Mount Eve Road, Goshen, NY 10924.Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
