Obituary of Russell Jerome Brown

Russell J. Brown (Hoose) SFC 10th Special Forces Group (A) Retired entered into rest on Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Virginia. He was 43. The son of Robert and Patricia Hoose of Monticello, he was born September 12, 1965 in Monticello. Rusty graduated from Monticello High School, United States Army Intelligence School and Cochise College in Sierra Vista, AZ, plus numerous schools on Anti-Terrorism and Interrogation. He served in the United States Army for 21 years, 4 months as a Counterintelligence Agent NCO in the 10th Special Forces Group-82nd Airborne Fort Carson and Fort Bragg. He served in operations all over the world, most recently four combat tours in Iraq. He retired in July 2007 and was working for HQs Army Material Command Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Russ leaves behind his mom and dad; his brothers: Mark, Michael & Daniel; his grandmother: Ann Moehringer; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews, and many of the Special Forces Community. Russ touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed especially by Colleen, Destiny, Abby and Squeeks. Russ was an avid Yankees fan. He enjoyed all outdoor activities including hiking, biking and barbequing with loved ones. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 28 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. The VFW will conduct a service at 6:15pm Sunday evening at the funeral home. His funeral service will be held on Monday, December 29 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. Russ was a life member of the VFW and all memorial contributions can be made to the VFW, American Legion or DAV. May God hold him in his arms until we are reunited.
