Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
JOHN ALVIN MARTIN II "Popeye", departed this life on November 3, 2012. He was the son of John Alvin and Erma Lee Hudson Martin, born on October 29, 2969.
Popeye was a staple in the community, loved by all. No matter who you are, when you heard the name Popeye you knew who he was. He along with his brothers, Spanky and Butterball were called the Three Musketeers. Wherever Popeye was the other two were not far behind. He attended and graduated vacation Bible school at the First Baptist Church in Monticello and sang in the Sunday school choir.
Popeye loved to make his family laugh by playing jokes on any and everybody, especially his father. He would often build a dummy to look like a real person, and then sit it inside the bathtub and wait for dad to go in a take a shower. It worked every time, however new shower curtains were needed. He was the life of the party. Popeye was famous for always bringing home stray dogs that would eventually become his pet after begging mom to no end. She would finally let him keep the dog. His hobbies were singing and dancing. He loved to play basketball with Darryl, Spanky, and Butterball. One of his favorite dishes was mama's sweet potato pie and her homemade hamburgers. He played modified basketball for Monticello Middle School, ran track, cross country, and sang in the Chorus. Popeye was and will forever be remembered as a loving and loyal son, brother and friend
