Earl Lee Ponton of Monticello, a retired refrigerator mechanic for S & W Ice Cream Co., died Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Northern Manor Nursing Home in Nanuet. He was 84. The son of the late Sale Ponton and Beatrice Brill Ponton, he was born October 16, 1924 in Strasberg, VA. A World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy, Earl was also a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Monticello, the Monticello Fire Dept., the BPOE Elks Lodge #1544, Monticello and the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop. He is survived by his wife: Barbara Anne Walker Ponton, at home; a son: William Lee Ponton & his wife Linda of Apopka, FL; a sister: Evelyn Coulson & her husband Lee of Baltimore, MD; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers: Alfred, Dick & Ivan; and a sister: Oneida. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Monday, November 24 at 7:00pm at the funeral home with Mo. Ninon Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, P.O.
