Clarence Westbrook, III ascended from this world on September 10, 2008 in the Albany Medical Center. He was 62.
The son of the late Clarence Westbrook II & Miresmi Lumo Westbrook, he was born February 10, 1946 in New York, NY. He graduated from Plato Price High School in Charlotte, NC in 1964. He later earned a Bachelors degree in English Literature, with honors, from Winston Salem State University.
Clarence proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Class A Radioman on the U.S.S. Intrepid & received a National Defense Service Medal during the Vietnam War.
Clarence moved to Sullivan County in 1977. He worked for more than 20 years at the Delaware Valley Job Corps, until his retirement. He was a man of God, serving as a member of the Bethlehem Temple of Cochecton. He believed in hard work & that education is the key. He also earned an Associates degree in Culinary Arts from the Sullivan County Community College because of his passion for cooking.
He is survived by one brother, James Melvin Currence, of Winston Salem, NC; his sister, Linda Gomez, of Rock Hill, SC; Aunts & Uncles Dequincy Currence, of Winston Salem, NC, Carl & Grace Jackson, of Charlotte, NC, Fletcher Westbrook, & Lilly Adams, Tshara L.F.DDas, of Monticello; nephew, Earl Gomez AKA Varko, of Monticello; 4 nieces, Annette Currence, of Roswell, GA, Mitzi ONeal, of Monticello, Nicole Gandy, of Atlanta, GA, & Shareen Bolden, of Rock Hill, SC; one great niece, Charnelle Bridges; 2 great nephews, Jamel & Malek Bridges, all of Monticello; and a host of relatives and many friends throughout the U.S.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Westbrook II & Miresmi Lumo Westbrook, his sister, Barbara Ann Westbrook, & his brother, Lionel Westbrook.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 11:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty, NY.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.
