Jerry C. Williams of Monticello, a retired staff sergeant for the United States Army, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 79. The son of the late Lena Williams and Ernest Smith, he was born March 15, 1929 in Fairhope, Alabama. Jerry was a member of the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello serving as a Deacon; a former member of the Free and Accepted Masons; and a retired veterans counselor for the New York State Dept. of Labor. He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Delores Walker Williams, at home; a son: Stanley J. Williams & his wife Pat of Rochester; a daughter: Michelle McNeal of Loch Sheldrake; ten grandchildren: Tyrece, Deshaya, Renata, Jade, Rashad, Terrence, Shamika, Jordan, Nya & Keyona; a great grandson: Demario; his mother-in-law: Estella Walker of Monticello; five sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister: Jean Allen. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5 from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello and on Saturday, September 6 from 11:00am to 12:00 noon at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6 at 12:00 noon at the church with Bishop Mervin Armstead officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bethlehem Temple Church or to the Catskill Dialysis Center in Monticello. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
