Marie Elizabeth Roden of Monticello died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family. She was 85. The daughter of the late Thomas Granahan and Mildred Kelley Granahan, she was born September 18, 1922 in Avoca, PA. Marie worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years at the Monticello Hospital and later went on to work for the Selective Service during the Vietnam War. She then retired from the Social Security Administration in Monticello. She is survived by her husband of 48 years: James J. Roden, at home; a sister-in-law Clare Granahan of Scranton, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including Dianne & Robert Austin of Liberty. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother: Thomas Granahan. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 8 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, PA at approximately 1:00. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550. Arrangements under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
