Obituary of Mary Katharine Ryan

Mary Katharine VanAarle Ryan, a longtime resident of Monticello, passed from this world to a better place on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. She was78. The daughter of the late Thomas Francis VanAarle and Grace Noon VanAarle, she was born August 3, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was married for 49 happy years to Edward Francis Ryan, Jr. who predeceased her on July 24, 2006. She now has joined him in Heaven. A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Monticello as well as Assumption Church in Brooklyn. A purveyor for womens rights, Mary worked as an executive for Owens-Corning Fiberglass and Leacork & Co. in New York City. She was also known for her sense of humor and great cooking. She is survived by her beloved daughter: Deirdre Ann Helen Ryan of Brooklyn and Monticello; her dearest friend: Alice Kreiter of Monticello; and her circle of devoted and treasured friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13 from 1-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 14 at 1:00pm at St. Peters Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Burial will follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Monticello.
